Motorcycle Driving Schools in New York

Motorcycle training teaches skills a car license doesn’t cover: clutch and throttle control, low-speed balance, swerving, emergency braking and reading traffic from two wheels. Many programs use the Motorcycle Safety Foundation’s Basic RiderCourse or a similar state-approved curriculum, which mixes classroom or online learning with practice on a closed range. To ride legally you need a motorcycle license or endorsement, which usually starts with a motorcycle learner permit and a written test. In some states, finishing an approved course can take the place of the road test. New York’s Motorcycle Safety Program, New Jersey’s approved Basic Rider Course providers and the Pennsylvania Motorcycle Safety Program all offer that path, each with its own eligibility rules, and Pennsylvania’s basic course is free for eligible residents. When comparing courses, ask whether a training motorcycle and helmet are provided, how large classes are, and what you need to bring on the first day.
