CDL Driving Schools in New York

Commercial driver’s license (CDL) training prepares you to drive tractor-trailers, buses and other large vehicles. Since February 7, 2022, federal Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) rules from the FMCSA have required certain new drivers to complete training before testing. That includes first-time Class A and Class B applicants, Class B drivers upgrading to Class A, and first-time applicants for the passenger (P), school bus (S) or hazardous materials (H) endorsement.Training must come from a provider listed on FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry. The provider reports your completion to the Registry so your state can verify it before your skills test, or before the knowledge test for the hazmat endorsement. Class A and Class B courses combine theory with behind-the-wheel training on a range and on public roads. When comparing CDL schools, confirm the Registry listing, ask which license classes and endorsements they train for, and compare program length and cost, which vary widely.
